Stacy Besserud – Founder of The Knox Birth Center

From a young age, Stacy was drawn to the world of birth, babies, and women’s health. Her teenage dreams revolved around becoming an OB/GYN or pediatrician, but the deeper calling toward birth work lingered until life experiences brought it to the forefront.

Midwifery wasn’t something Stacy consciously chose—it chose her. During her midwifery training, she made a remarkable discovery: her three-times-great maternal grandmother, Eliza Jane Knox, had been a Granny Midwife in Tennessee. This unexpected family legacy brought clarity to the passion Stacy had always carried. Inspired by this lineage, she founded The Knox Birth Center in honor of Eliza Jane.

Stacy’s journey toward midwifery solidified after a disappointing personal birth experience that led to an unnecessary cesarean. Fueled by a desire to empower others with knowledge and better outcomes, she began her midwifery journey. For years, she has supported several families, focusing on informed decision-making and reducing interventions during birth.

Though she initially resisted the call to midwifery, the inner pull eventually became undeniable. Once she embraced it, doors opened. Through community support, mentorship, and dedication, Stacy completed her midwifery education realizing her long-held dream.

Originally from Missouri, Stacy now proudly calls Texas home. Outside of midwifery, she enjoys fostering kittens for her local animal shelter, volunteering at her church, exploring genealogy, traveling, watching her favorite shows, and spending cherished time with her husband of over 20 years and their five children—two of whom were lovingly welcomed into the hands of midwives.
