At The Knox Birth Center, our licensed midwives are available 24/7 to meet you at the birth center when labor begins. We bring not only clinical expertise but also a calm, grounded presence, offering continuous support through labor, birth, and the precious first hours of bonding with your baby.
What to Expect During Your Birth
Continuous physical and emotional support for both you and your partner
Ongoing monitoring of you and your baby’s health throughout labor
Freedom of movement and nourishment, with encouragement to eat, drink, and move as desired
A wide variety of comfort measures, including:
Hydrotherapy
Massage techniques and counter pressure
Music and aromatherapy
Birth balls and rebozos
TENS units
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for pain relief (Coming Soon!)
Water birth option available in every birth suite
The ability to labor and birth in the position and space that feels best to you
Immediate skin-to-skin contact and delayed cord clamping to support bonding and physiological transition
A trusted birth team that provides compassionate, personalized care throughout your entire labor and birth in an out-of-hospital setting
What to Expect After Birth
Mom and baby monitored for 4-6 hours after birth (longer if needed) to ensure a safe and smooth transition
A complete newborn physical exam, assessing all body systems
Administration of eye ointment and Vitamin K (with informed parental consent)
Lactation support to help with initial feeding and newborn latch
Suturing, if needed, performed by your midwife with care and comfort in mind
Birth certificate filing and Social Security card processing handled for you
